AUTUMN SWIMMING GUIDELINES
ESSENTIAL GUIDANCE ON STAYING SAFE THIS AUTUMN
As the evenings draw in and the air becomes crisp and fresh, it's time to make some changes to our operating procedures to accommodate the arrival of the Autumn open water swimming season. Please take a moment to read through these important guidelines to help you enjoy your Autumn swim sessions.
Happy Autumn, swimmers!

Autumn is a great season to enjoy swimming at Vobster Quay - the water retains its warm summer temperature even as the air cools, making for enjoyable crisp conditions well before the chills of winter set in. A bit of early morning mist, or the slowly changing colours of the leaves all add an extra mystique and atmosphere.

It's also that time of the year when the mornings and evening draw in, which means a bit more thought about water safety is required.

SESSION FLEXIBILITY
Although all our sessions will stay lifeguarded, the light can vary significantly from day to day. Heavy fog and cloud can make conditions darker than usual and it's fundamentally important that our lifeguards can see you to ensure your safety. Although we anticipate allowing swimming throughout all our planned sessions on bright clear days, there may be some days when swimming needs to close early. These are likely to be weather related and therefore inherently unpredictable.

We do monitor conditions for swimming closely, but during the latter part of the month, please make sure you plan your swim to finish before dusk and adjust accordingly if cloudy conditions are on the forecast. There are a number of helpful sunset / sunrise time smart phone planner apps to help you anticipate when swimming might not be available for the full duration of the day, especially in the last week of September.

LIFEGUARD MATTERS
Please help us achieve a safe lake by complying with any lifeguard requests to swim a shorter course or limit the overall length of your swim.

Note: We are unable to allow later swims even if you have lights. If these lights malfunction or simply fall off, swimmers are left invisible in the dark and therefore impossible to lifeguard.

OPENING HOURS
As we move into October, we have revised the available swim sessions to match the reduced hours of daylight - please see our opening hours on our website or booking portal for full details.

Wishing you all safe and enjoyable Autumn swimming,

The Vobster Team
